Background:
Built around 1970, Newdigate returned to primary school status in 1996, following a number of years as separate first and middle schools. Housed in a 'modern, light and spacious' building, facilities include two halls, upper and lower school libraries and an information and communication technology (ICT) suite. Extra-curricular clubs and activities include football, netball, French, ICT, art, homework, dance, African drumming, choir and band. Children have the opportunity to learn the violin and the school is 'well supported' by the local community. The deputy headteacher is the special educational needs (SEN) co-ordinator, who along with the headteacher, nursery teacher and five SEN assistants supports statemented pupils and groups of less/more able children. Two rooms are available for specialist SEN group work.
