Background:
The Higham Lane School building dates from 1939 and is based on a 10-acre site in a residential area about a mile north-east of Nuneaton town centre. Facilities include a library and resources centre, a sportshall, a community room, a design and technology suite, networked ICT suites, modern science laboratories and a new Business and Enterprise Centre. Over 60 extra-curricular activities are offered every week, and students regularly take part in competitions such as debating and maths challenges. Students study two out of three languages (French, German and Spanish) from Year 7 onwards. There are school trips to the theatre, art exhibitions, local businesses and to theme parks, and overseas visits to such places as France and the USA. The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is offered, and there is an elected school council.
