Founded in 1859 and extended in the 1970s and 1990s, the school enjoys 'excellent facilities', an adventure playground, swimming pool and separate infant and junior playgrounds. The school prides itself on the level of provision of extra-curricular activities particularly in music and sport. There are strong community links and a supportive parent-teacher association which has raised valuable funds for improving the facilities and grounds. Sponsored events are held to support a variety of charities.
