Background:

St Joseph's was founded in 1966 in the village of Whitnash, now contigous with Leamington Spa, in a single-storey building with playgrounds and field. The sports teams' have enjoyed 'great success' which has included winning the area sports competition, Top Sport championship, Catholic Schools Athletics Cup, area football league, cross country league and the Year 6 netball league. One pupil was selected for a premiership football academy and others have represented Warwickshire in cross country and netball. Brass, recorder and viola lessons are optional and the school has its own instrumental group which plays at assemblies and masses. Pupils take part in the Leamington Music Festival. Pupils may join the art, computer and youth clubs and the after and before school Kids' Clubs are 'very popular' with both pupils and working parents. The governing body is 'very keen that the school should be a part of the community which it serves' and consequently holds Punjabi lessons twice each week at the school. 'Many' parents and local residents volunteer their time to help at the St Joseph's and the 'very active' parent-teacher association arranges a variety of social events throughout the year, including a firework display, summer fete and Christmas bazaar. Cafod, World Book Aid and the National Children's Homes benefit from fundraising by St Joseph's pupils and staff.
