Background:
Founded in 1893, with money bequeathed by Miss Anne Amherst, whose family had been responsible for building St Augustine's Catholic Church; new school built for Catholic children in Kenilworth in 1991; original school building houses Beehive Nursery. Set on edge of town in own grounds, developed to include environmental area as well as high and low activity apparatus. Emphasis on arts; 10 per cent of timetable given to religious education. The school has an active parents' and teachers' association. After-school clubs include football, netball, computer, science, environmental, art, dance, homework, athletics and orchestra. Sports success in 2006, particularly in cross-country. Close to local community: choir for annual Carols in the Castle event, a crib for the town, and entertainment for elderly in parish. Pupils raised money for charity each year. Before-school care, 8am-8.45am; after-school, 3.30pm-6pm. Beacon status (2002); DfES achievement award; training school status. Ethos: 'The school is strongly Catholic'.
