Background:
St Joseph's dates back over 100 years but now occupies buildings which opened in 1972 and consist of a three-level semi-open-plan site. Alongside core and foundation National Curriculum subjects, children can supplement their learning at lunch-time clubs for sports, music and academic activities. Peripatetic music teachers offer lessons in keyboard, guitar, woodwind, string and brass instruments. The school has 'good links' with the local police and health service as well as 'excellent links' with the church and parish. Spiritual development is seen as 'crucial', and staff believe in the education of 'the whole child', not just academic teaching. Each year the school raises money for local handicapped children, Cancer Relief, Comic Relief and Children in Need and selects one local charity.
