Background:
Founded as a junior school in 1994, Oakfield is set in 'pleasant' surroundings on the edge of the Forest of Arden. The school grounds incorporate a large playground and playing fields. French is taught in Years 5 and 6 and the school boasts an 'excellent sporting tradition', with pupils receiving coaching in a 'variety' of sports. Musical activities include the orchestra, choir and woodwind, brass, violin and steelpans tuition. The 'hard working' school association has close links to the local community and supports both local and national charities. The school council has elected members from each class and an 'open door' policy is operated with regard to parents. There is a purpose built ICT suite, which is networked throughout the school and has access to the internet. A part-time special educational needs (SEN) co-ordinator and seven SEN assistants provide support to pupils in a 'well resourced' specialist room.
