Background:
Opened in 1964, the school is situated south of the River Avon and serves the surrounding district of the Bridge Town, in addition to the outlying villages of Clifford Chambers, Alderminster and Preston on Stour. The main building currently houses four of its eight classes and a major rebuilding programme is scheduled to commence in 2000-2001, which will extend the main building and enable all classes to be located within it. The school is heavily over-subscribed, with over 40 children being refused admission in September 2000. Pupils benefit from 'extensive' playing fields, and the school netball and football teams were the local area champions in 1999-2000. Athletics, rounders, cricket, hockey and cross-country running are some of the other sporting activities on offer to children. Bridge Town has 'good community links with individuals and agencies/organisations'. Donations are made to a number of charities annually. A full-time special educational needs (SEN) co-ordinator, a part-time SEN teacher and two full-time SEN assistants provide learning support for children with specific needs, both in groups and individually in the school's SEN room.
